A Minted Assets Exclusive
For the second time, Minted Assets was able to collaborate with the American Numismatic Association and famed coin designer, Joel Iskowitz, to create another gorgeous piece in celebration of the ever-popular World’s Fair of Money show. This year the exciting event takes place in Oklahoma City, and we are so proud to finally present this special legal tender coin!
This year's reverse highlights one of the most famous statues ever made. Known as “End of the Trail”, the statue was created by well-known coin designer and sculptor, James Earle Fraser. Fraser is best known for his design on the Buffalo Nickel. Many versions of the End of the Trail statue were made, but the most notable version now sits in the main atrium of the Cowboy and Western Museum in downtown Oklahoma City. It was originally displayed at the 1915 World’s Fair in San Francisco. The model used for this statue was named Chief John Big Tree - also one of three models used on the Buffalo Nickel. A lone Bald Eagle flies over the statue while medallic form of Fraser is displayed in the lower right. Ironically, as iconic as Fraser and the End of the Trail statue is, this is the first time that either has been shown on a legal tender coin.
The obverse design displays an allegorical figure of NOMISMA, which is the Greek word for “Money”. She is shown holding the Oklahoma Quarter which serves as the World’s Fair of Money logo. In place of the 2008 issue date, the signature of Susan Gamble - the Quarter’s designer - is displayed. E. Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One) graces the legend as a fitting tribute to the show’s mission of bringing the people in the hobby together for this grand event.
