Carcharodontosaurus, meaning "shark-tooth lizard" due to its long, sharp, serrated teeth, was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs, living in North Africa approximately 100 to 93 million years ago. This apex predator measured 12 to 13 meters long, weighed up to 8 tons, and had a skull over 1.5 meters in length. Its muscular body and long legs suggest it could run fast, likely hunting giant sauropods. Early fossil discoveries were lost during World War II, with new findings in the 1990s providing more insight into this dinosaur. Carcharodontosaurus did not live at the same time as Tyrannosaurus Rex, with 25 to 30 million years separating them, but it is often compared to T-Rex due to its immense size and perceived danger as one of the largest land predators.
