The Taj Mahal, a magnificent mausoleum, was completed in 1648 in Agra, India. Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had this masterpiece built in honor of his late wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who passed away in 1631. The name Taj Mahal, which means "crown of the palace," is a tribute to her.
Construction took 22 years. The core of the building, as well as the dome and delicate minarets, are made of locally fired bricks, clad both inside and out with brilliant white marble slabs. Decorated with a variety of precious stones from faraway lands, it attracts approximately 5 million visitors annually.
The freestanding coin with an antique finish is already the fourth issue in the successful "Historical Monuments" series. The ultra-high relief on both sides impressively highlights the unique architectural form of the building. In the background, two interior views of the mausoleum are visible.
Just as the Taj Mahal is considered a monument to eternal love, this exquisite coin is a numismatic work of art of poignant beauty.
