There have only been two times where the US Government made emergency notes during a time of crisis.  The Hawaii emergency notes are an example of one of those timesAt #65 on the top 100 list, the Hawaii notes were specially printed during WWII after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  Many feared that the Japanese would take over Hawaii and confiscate our currency and disrupt our monetary system.  To thwart this, the government ordered all currency circulating in Hawaii to be printed with the word Hawaii on both the front and back of the notes.  They did this so that in a worst-case scenario, the government could immediately deem these notes worthless without impacting all of the other silver certificates on the mainland.  They did this on the denominations of the $1, $5, $10, and $20.  This $10 note is a shining example of the series!  The note is bright and the Hawaii overprint is crystal clear on this.  Corners are sharp and only a slight off-centering keeps these from hitting a Superb Gem grade.  This note is very near finest known as PMG’s highest grade is only a 67 of which only 11 exist.  In fact, only 61 notes out of 1500 grade higher than this one.  A superb note for an advanced collector.
